Description
This route begins and ends at the trailhead off Forest Road 201, south of Lincoln. From the trailhead, follow the Emily Proctor Trail as it climbs steadily through mixed hardwoods before entering higher elevation spruce-fir forest. At a short distance past the Emily Proctor Shelter, turn north onto the Long Trail to begin a rugged ridgeline traverse across three summits: Mount Wilson, Mount Roosevelt, and Mount Cleveland. Views are best from open ledges and clearings along this section, particularly near Mount Roosevelt. Continue following the Long Trail north to the Cooley Glen Shelter. From there, take the Cooley Glen Trail back downhill through dense forest to return to the trailhead. This route offers a quieter alternative to more popular Long Trail segments, with several reliable water sources near the shelters and chances to spot moose in the high-elevation habitat.
