There and Back
The Clark Brook Trail begins off West Hill Rd, just outside of Granville. From the trailhead, the route follows Clark Brook through a dense forest of maple, birch, and beech. Early on, the trail crosses the brook several times; these crossings can be slick and may run high during spring melt or after rain. After a steady climb through the lower forest, the grade steepens as the trail ascends toward the main Green Mountains ridgeline.
At a signed junction just below the crest, turn right on the Long Trail to reach the summit of Mount Roosevelt. Though partially wooded, the summit offers quiet, scenic surroundings and a peaceful rest spot. Hikers looking to extend their trip can continue on the Long Trail for additional ridgeline exploration. Expect sections of mud, especially near the brook and during wetter months. This is a remote, lightly traveled trail with a wilderness feel—ideal for hikers seeking solitude and a moderately strenuous route into the heart of the Green Mountains.
