Description
Starting from Lincoln Gap, the trail ebbs and flows as it navigates the southern ridge of Abraham Mountain and quickly climbs into the subalpine forest. The climb is a gradual one over rocky and rooted terrain. At around 1.7 miles in, you'll encounter the Battell Trail Junction and the Battell Shelter that's used by Long Trail hikers. As the climb continues, the grade remains fairly consistent. In the final 0.3 miles before the summit of Mount Abraham, the terrain becomes rocky and steep and involves some level of scrambling to navigate. After navigating the steep switchbacking trail, you reach the summit of Mount Abe. The marker is located in the middle of a large semi-circle made of rocks. Continuing on to Lincoln Peak, the hike is fairly straightforward and involves an easy traversing section with minimal scrambling. The trail comes out right above the Lincoln Peak chairlift for Sugarbush Ski Resort. There is a well-built seating area at the peak that can be used to relax and enjoy the view.
