The Strawberry Fields Perimeter Trail begins and ends at the parking area off Cranes Hollow Road, just outside Amsterdam, New York. This mellow route forms a full circuit around the Strawberry Fields Nature Preserve, winding through a mix of forest, open fields, and hedgerows. From the trailhead, hikers travel clockwise or counterclockwise along a wide, grassy path that gently rises and falls, offering expansive views over the Mohawk River Valley from the higher sections of the loop.
Along the way, the route passes through protected farmland and preserve habitat known for seasonal wildflowers like goldenrod, asters, and fringed gentian. Wildlife is abundant—more than 100 bird species have been observed here—making it a popular destination for birding and nature walks. Expect muddy conditions in wet weather, especially in low-lying areas. The trail is open year-round and accommodates snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in winter. Leashed dogs are permitted.
