The route begins at the Sanders Preserve parking area on Sanders Road and follows a network of color-coded trails—Red, Blue, Orange, and Green—through gently rolling terrain. From the trailhead, hikers can begin in any direction, though many choose to start on the Red Trail heading northeast. The route weaves through mixed hardwood forest with a blend of deciduous trees and understory brush, offering a peaceful setting ideal for a casual walk, family outing, or nature observation.
At several points, the trail intersects itself or branches into different loops. Turn right at early junctions to follow the Red and Blue Trails deeper into the preserve, then connect with the Orange and Green Trails on the return. These sections pass interpretive markers and provide occasional glimpses of wildlife like deer and songbirds. Trail intersections are unmarked, so bringing a map or GPS-based app is recommended to stay oriented. The trails are open to hikers, leashed dogs, and mountain bikers during the warmer months, and cross-country skiers in winter.
This is a relaxed, low-elevation route with no major climbs—perfect for hikers seeking a mellow outing in a quiet woodland setting.
