The Garnsey Park Trail begins at the Garnsey Park Trailhead just off Route 146 near Clifton Park, New York. This well-marked route winds through a mix of open meadows and hardwood forest, climbing gently to a wooded ridge that offers elevated views of the Mohawk River Valley. Several short connectors create options for extending or shortening the route, while spur paths lead to quiet overlooks and shaded benches. At the first Y-intersection, bear left to stay on the main trail, then follow the loop in either direction.
This area is especially popular for day hikes near the Capital Region thanks to its varied terrain and seasonal wildflowers. The trail remains mostly level with only a few short, steeper sections—ideal for hikers seeking a relaxed outing with moderate elevation changes. There are no reliable water sources, and ticks and poison ivy are common in summer. While open year-round, expect muddy or icy conditions during shoulder seasons. The ridge views and birdwatching opportunities make this a worthwhile stop for a short hike in the southern Adirondack foothills.
