Loop
The Woodcock Preserve Loop begins at the parking area on Tanner Road and weaves through a small conservation area managed by Saratoga PLAN. From the trailhead, follow the White Trail into the woods before reaching a signed junction with the Yellow Trail. Continue along the Yellow Trail, which loops gradually through forest and wetlands before linking back to the White Trail. Continue on the White Trail until reaching the Red Trail. This section passes benches and marshy sections with boardwalks, eventually looping back to the White Trail. Keep right to reach the Blue Trail. Note that the Blue Trail is closed mid-March through mid-October to protect nesting habitat for the American woodcock—observe posted signage and reroute as needed.
This route is flat and easy to follow, offering a mix of meadow, mixed hardwood forest, and wetland terrain. Expect some muddy or wet areas, especially after rainfall or in spring. While short, the trail offers a peaceful atmosphere and bird-watching opportunities, especially in shoulder seasons. The preserve’s compact layout makes it a good fit for families, snowshoers, or anyone seeking a quiet day hike near the Capital Region.
