Huyck Preserve Loops

The Huyck Preserve Loop Trails begin at the main trailhead off Delaware Turnpike in Rensselaerville, NY, offering several short routes through a protected hardwood forest landscape. From the trailhead, hikers can explore a well-marked network including Rensselaerville Falls, a striking 60-foot cascade tucked into a shaded ravine, and the Lake Trail Loop, which skirts the shore of Lake Myosotis and crosses boardwalks over wetland areas. At junctions, trail signage clearly marks options like the Partridge Path, a more secluded loop through dense forest, or the Race Track Loop, which passes the stone foundation ruins of a 19th-century mill. Some elevation changes occur throughout, but the terrain remains mostly moderate with a few brief climbs. The area is open year-round, but trails may be muddy in spring or icy in winter—late spring through fall offers the most reliable footing. Dogs are permitted on leash, and hikers should come prepared for tick exposure during warmer months. Camping, fires, and bikes are not allowed.
