Starting from the Aqua-Terra Wilderness Area parking lot off Maxian Road, this route forms a wooded circuit that passes a scenic pond and climbs gently to a low ridge with multiple overlook points. From the trailhead, head south on the main path skirting the pond’s eastern edge. Around a short distance in, keep left at the first Y-intersection to wind through the forest before beginning a gradual climb up the old ski hill. The route traverses mixed hardwood forest with occasional muddy or overgrown stretches. At the top of the ridge, a series of small clearings offer partial views across the landscape and back toward the water.
The trail continues along the upper hillside before looping back north and descending through forest to reconnect with the lower trail system. Additional side paths offer shoreline access and extended walking options around the 6-acre pond. This route is best from spring through late fall, when trail conditions are more predictable. The payoff is a short, peaceful hike through varied terrain with wildlife-viewing opportunities and scenic rest spots.
