The IBM Glen Loop Trail begins and ends at a small parking area off Robinson Hollow Road, just outside the town of Union in New York’s Southern Tier. Managed by The Nature Conservancy and Waterman Conservation Education Center, this easy route follows well-maintained footpaths through quiet forested ravines and along Glen Creek. From the trailhead, follow the main path straight into the preserve, where the trail quickly enters a shaded glen lined with hemlocks and layered shale walls. After a short distance, bear right at the first junction to begin the loop in a counter-clockwise direction.
The trail climbs gently alongside the creek, passing seasonal waterfalls and shallow cascades depending on recent rainfall. As the trail continues, it winds through a mix of hardwoods and evergreen stands, with intermittent footbridges and boardwalks over wetter areas. Keep right at any unsigned forks to stay on the main route, eventually curving back to the initial junction. Watch for native ferns, mosses, and diverse birdlife throughout the forest. Although open year-round, the route is best hiked from spring through fall to avoid icy or muddy conditions.
Ideal for short day hikes near Binghamton, this serene woodland trail offers a quiet escape into a biologically rich glen.
