The Jakes Rocks Trail begins and ends at the parking area off Forest Road 492, accessed via the Longhouse National Scenic Byway in Allegheny National Forest. From the trailhead, follow Tuttletown Trail a short distance before turning left onto Seneca Trail through mixed hardwood forest. Continue onto Cornplanter Loop, which wraps around a wooded ridge dotted with sandstone boulders and offers filtered views of the Allegheny Reservoir. After completing the ridge section, turn right onto Coal Knob Trail for a steady return to the trailhead.
This route covers a mix of surfaces, from smooth tread to uneven stretches with roots and rocky outcrops. A short spur near the start leads to a scenic overlook above Jackson Bay, with broad views of the reservoir and distant hills. The area is part of a larger trail network designed for both hiking and mountain biking—be prepared to share the trail with riders, especially on narrower segments. There is no potable water on site, and access is best from spring through fall. The route offers a rewarding mix of forest walking and ridge exploration with classic northern Pennsylvania views.
