The Fruitlands Trails start and end on the museum grounds at 102 Prospect Hill Road in Harvard, MA, forming a network of interconnected routes through conservation land managed by The Trustees of Reservations. From the parking area, several color-coded trails branch out across wooded ridges, meadow edges, and seasonal wetlands. Continue straight from the trailhead along a woodland path with gentle elevation changes. Stay right at the next three junctions to follow the Orange Trail onto the Red Trail, which loops around and crosses the Blue Trail before reconnecting with the Orange Trail. At the junction with the Yellow Trail, stay right again to pass open meadows and return to the starting point.
Interpretive signs highlight historic points such as the Willard Farm site and the old Union Turnpike path. Expect brief climbs and descents, with occasional muddy or uneven sections after rain. The Blue Trail connects to adjacent trail systems, including access toward the Oxbow National Wildlife Refuge. Scenic overlooks offer broad views of the Nashua River Valley and distant peaks like Mt. Wachusett. Trails are open year-round during museum hours, with snowshoeing and cross-country skiing allowed in winter. Dogs are permitted but must be leashed.
