The McDonough Point Trail begins at the main parking area of Kingsland Bay State Park and follows a mellow, wooded path toward the shoreline of Lake Champlain. The route travels through mature forest with minimal elevation change, making it suitable for most hikers. Early in the hike, pass through a canopy of hardwoods before reaching occasional clearings with glimpses of the lake. Continue toward McDonough Point by staying left at minor junctions, keeping to the most defined path.
This easy route rewards hikers with a peaceful setting and broad lake views from McDonough Point. Spring offers vibrant wildflower displays, while the fall provides crisp air and fewer visitors. Birdwatchers may spot osprey and warblers along the way. While the trail is open during the park's main season from mid-May through Columbus Day, off-season access may be limited due to unmaintained roads.
