Loop
From the small pullout on Cook Road near Essex, follow the unmarked path heading north through mixed hardwood forest. The route climbs gradually along an old woods road before narrowing to a herd path that ascends toward South Boquet Mountain. Continue uphill to reach open rock ledges with wide views across the Boquet Valley and toward the High Peaks to the east. From here, descend slightly, then follow the faint path north along the ridgeline toward North Boquet Mountain. The terrain becomes steeper and more rugged in places, with patches of open rock and mossy forest. A final short scramble leads to the upper ledges of North Boquet, where Lake Champlain and the Green Mountains stretch out below. Retrace the route south to return to the trailhead. This quiet route offers a rewarding mix of solitude, soft forest walking, and far-reaching summit views rarely found outside the busier High Peaks.
