The route to Hornbeam Hill begins at the Twin Valleys Road trailhead near Keeseville, following the Twin Valleys Loop Trail through mixed hardwood forest. From the trailhead, head northwest on a narrow footpath that climbs gradually through stands of hornbeam, maple, and birch. At a signed junction, turn onto the Hornbeam Hill Trail to reach the summit spur. The final approach gains moderate elevation on rocky, forested singletrack before emerging at an open spot near the crest of Hornbeam Hill. From here, filtered views stretch across the Champlain Valley toward the Adirondack foothills.
After visiting the summit, continue northeast along the spur to connect the Twin Valleys Loop and complete the circuit back to the trailhead. The route is generally quiet and lightly trafficked, with sections used for outdoor education by the Twin Valleys Outdoor Education Center. Expect muddy or icy footing in shoulder seasons and limited cell service throughout the area. This moderate forest hike offers a peaceful mix of solitude, ecological diversity, and classic northern New York scenery.
