Description
The Raven Ridge Trail begins at a small parking area off Rotax Road in Monkton and follows a clearly marked route through The Nature Conservancy’s Raven Ridge Natural Area. From the trailhead, follow the boardwalk to a broad, well-maintained path winds through mixed hardwood forest. This section crosses a rare talus slope habitat where hikers may spot porcupines, bobcats, or other wildlife using this key ecological corridor. After the boardwalk, the trail gently climbs through open forest and over exposed limestone outcrops. At the end of the maintained route, a short spur leads to an overlook with wide views of the Champlain Valley and the Adirondack Mountains beyond. Return along the same trail, taking care on slippery rocks and wooden structures during wet or icy conditions. This short and accessible route is ideal for day hikes near Burlington, offering a unique combination of geology, biodiversity, and scenic views.
