The Kurmes Preserve North Trail begins and ends at a small trailhead off Devils Hole Road near Cresco, PA. From the parking area, head south on the white-blazed trail just right of the lot. A short distance in, the trail passes a orange-blazed spur on the left—stay on the main white trail as it winds along the railroad corridor. The route curves southeast, descending through mixed oak forest and dense understory until it parallels Tank Creek. After passing several seasonal vernal pools, cross Paradise Creek on a narrow footbridge and turn left onto Kurmes Lane to complete the loop and return to the trailhead.
This moderate route includes uneven terrain, narrow tread, and occasional stream crossings. Vernal pools are most active from mid-February through April—avoid stepping near or into them to protect fragile amphibian habitat. The preserve is open year-round, but visitors should wear blaze orange in fall and avoid the area during hunting season. Ideal for short day hikes in the Poconos, this route offers a peaceful walk through diverse forest with seasonal wildlife viewing.
