This route begins at the Mount Wismer trailhead off Gravel Road in Barrett Township, just north of Canadensis. Look for a small dirt lane just past the green nature preserve sign that leads to the Barrett Township Dog Park. From the limited parking area, follow the woods road, which becomes the yellow trail and climbs gradually through mixed forest. The yellow trail forms the main route and connects with two steeper options to the escarpment: the red trail, which branches right early on and climbs directly up a rocky slope, and the blue trail, which branches right farther along for a less steep ascent.
The yellow trail passes seasonal blueberry patches and open meadows before reaching the overlook. From this high point, hikers can see across the Pocono Plateau toward the Delaware Water Gap, with clear views of Gravel Pond and Skytop’s West Mountain. The route then descends through forested terrain to rejoin the yellow trail. Expect rocky footing, muddy sections, and seasonal overgrowth. An alternate northern access point is also available via the blue trail, which begins along PA Route 447. Best from mid-summer through fall, this route offers diverse terrain, quiet woods, and one of the better panoramic views in the region.
