Description
This moderate route begins at the end of Pleasant Ridge Road, where it dead-ends at State Game Lands 221 near Mountainhome and Cresco. From the parking area, follow the old forest road—Rattlesnake Creek Road—into a quiet, wooded corridor. The wide, unmaintained roadway leads gradually downhill and deeper into the game lands, with limited signage and trail markings along the way. After a steady walk, you will reach a shallow crossing of Rattlesnake Run. After recent rain or snowmelt, this stream may require careful rock-hopping or wet feet. Beyond the creek, continue along the same roadbed as the forest grows denser and the trail narrows slightly. Near the end of the route, an informal spur trail branches off toward the sound of rushing water. This short but steep descent leads to the base of Rattlesnake Falls, a secluded two-tiered waterfall surrounded by forest. The slope can be slick, especially after wet weather, and sturdy footwear is recommended. This is a remote-feeling hike through Pennsylvania game lands, offering a peaceful setting and a rewarding waterfall destination best seen after recent precipitation.
