Loop
The route begins at the southern trailhead off Madison Ave, where a marked path leads into Hannacroix Creek Preserve. Start on the Paper Mill Trail, following an easy grade toward the preserved ruins of the historic paper mill near the creek. From there, continue to the Laverne Irving Trail, which climbs gently through hardwood and hemlock forest before linking with the Blue Trail. At several points along this middle section, the trail runs parallel to Hannacroix Creek, offering chances to see a scenic waterfall and seasonal tributaries.
After a short distance on the Blue Trail, turn onto the Red Trail and follow its winding course through varied terrain and interpretive ecology signage. Trail junctions in this area can be confusing, so using a GPS or map is recommended. The route is best in spring through fall, when muddy sections are less frequent and foliage colors stand out.
