There and Back
The trail begins at the Baker Road Trailhead, just north of Eden, Vermont, and heads a short distance west to Ritterbrush Pond. The trail winds through dense hardwood forest, climbing steadily over rocky and root-filled tread. After a short distance, it veers left at a signed junction and continues ascending through a quiet backcountry corridor. Several intermittent streams cross the path, especially in spring and after rain, so waterproof footwear is recommended.
As the trail levels out, it approaches the tranquil shoreline of Ritterbush Pond, where hikers may spot loons or even moose in the early morning or evening hours. The pond is surrounded by mixed forest that puts on a vivid display during fall foliage season. This is a low-use route with a remote feel, ideal for day hikes in the Green Mountains away from the crowds.
