Start off on One Mile Trail, following the wide, well-maintained old woods road trail for about 0.3 miles. Take Catamount Trail to ascend, a somewhat steep and rocky trail to the summit of Catamount Hill. Though the summit is open, it is not above treeline, so the best viewpoint is actually just before the peak. Coming off the hill, stay right onto the Catamount Shortcut to head down to Cascade Trail. The trail is quite rocky and narrow as it bobs up and down through the woods. As you descend, you'll eventually follow Catamount Brook, before descending a short wooden staircase to reach One Mile Trail. Follow One Mile Trail briefly before turning right onto Bear Brook Lower. This shady section of the trail stays quite cool and is a lovely section of the hike in the summertime. The trail ends right where you turned onto Catamount Trail. A right takes you back to the parking area.
