Begin at the Bob’s Trail trailhead near Shanty Road off Montelona Road, where the route starts on a wide, gently rolling forest path marked with white diamond blazes. From the parking area, follow Bob’s Trail as it heads into mixed hardwood forest, passing several low, wet areas with vernal pools within a short distance of the trailhead. Stay on the main tread as the route gradually approaches a beaver pond and dam, a notable turnaround point if traveling Bob’s Trail alone.
Near the far end of Bob’s Trail, continue straight at the junction to connect with the Blackbriar Trail, marked by blue diamond blazes. Turn right to follow Blackbriar Trail as it trends generally south and west through rolling terrain. This section offers frequent views of Black Brook, with the trail weaving close to the water before climbing slightly away through forested sections. After passing several small stream crossings and wetland edges, continue following the blue blazes until reaching the junction with Fieldstone Trail.
At the Fieldstone Trail junction, turn left to stay on Blackbriar Trail rather than exiting the preserve. Continue following Blackbriar Trail as it gradually curves back toward the Bob’s Trail corridor. Watch for the signed junction where Blackbriar Trail reconnects with Bob’s Trail. Turn right here to rejoin Bob’s Trail and follow it back through familiar forest terrain to the Shanty Road trailhead.
This loop delivers an easy-to-moderate hike with varied scenery, combining quiet woods, wetland habitats, and scenic stretches along Black Brook for a well-rounded walk in one of the best low-key hiking areas near Goffstown.
