The primary route through Florence M. Tarr Wildlife Sanctuary begins at roadside parking and the main kiosk along Joppa Hill Road, near the Bedford and Goffstown town line. From the trailhead, follow the Lo Flo Trail as it heads into mixed forest on a wide, well-marked path. The route travels gradually through rolling terrain, passing dense stands of mountain laurel and skirting wetland edges and quiet beaver ponds within a short distance of the road. Several signed junctions appear along the way; stay on the main trail as side paths branch off toward interior loops and viewpoints.
Farther in, the route reaches a signed Y-intersection where the Holbrook Hill Trail turns uphill. Turn right to begin a steady, moderate climb on gentle switchbacks toward the sanctuary’s high point. The forest transitions to more open hardwoods as the grade eases near the top, where limited views and a sense of elevation mark Holbrook Hill. The route returns via the Shirley Trail creating a loop with the Holbrook Hill Trails for walkers who exploring the western end of the Sanctuary. Descend Holbrook Hill and reconnect with the lo Flo Trail keeping right for a forested walk back to Joppa Hill Road. This route offers a quiet, accessible outing with varied habitats and a rewarding high point close to the Manchester–Bedford area.
