The Batchelder Mill Road Trails begin near Mill Brook in East Concord, with access at the end of Batchelder Mill Road or from North Curtisville Road. This trail network consists of several short, color-blazed paths that weave through pine and oak forest on former logging roads. The Red Trail forms the main spine of the system, offering gentle to moderate grades. Shorter trails like the Green, Blue, Yellow, and Orange connectors allow hikers to create a variety of routes through the woods.
A short distance from the trailhead, an observation platform overlooks Mill Brook wetlands where remnants of a historic dam and mill foundation offer a glimpse into the area’s past. Much of the trail system passes through classic pine barren habitat, with sandy soil and low-growing vegetation. Dogs are allowed on leash, and informal mountain biking is common on the Red and Blue Trails. With clearly marked blazes and easy navigation, this is a great option for day hikes in Concord with a mix of natural and historical interest.
