This easy route circles Mauserts Pond from the Beach/Picnic Day-Use parking area in Clarksburg State Park. The trail winds through mixed forest, with occasional rooty sections and seasonal wet areas. Several well-placed bog bridges help with footing in marshy spots, though they may be uneven or slick in wet weather. Keep left at junctions to stay on the main route around the pond, eventually returning to the parking area via Shoreline Trail. A self-guided interpretive trail features posted markers with ecological and historical information along parts of the route.
This route offers a relaxed pace through quiet woods with consistent views of the water and surrounding hills. Hikers pass glacial erratics, beaver activity, and two notable stream crossings. The terrain remains mostly level throughout, making this a popular option for easy day hikes in the Berkshires. Additional access is available from the State Line Trailhead on Horrigan Road, which connects into the pond route. The trail is accessible year-round, with snowshoeing and cross-country skiing possible in winter months. Expect muddy stretches or blowdowns after storms.
