Loop
Starting from the Sherburne Trailhead off Vermont Rte. 100 near Gifford Woods State Park, the Hutchins Hill Trail Loop climbs steadily into the forested ridges of the Green Mountain National Forest. The route follows a moderately graded trail with sections of uneven footing and occasional rocky terrain. After gaining elevation, the trail winds through mixed hardwoods and spruce stands, with filtered views of the Killington area visible through gaps in the canopy.
Midway through the loop, hikers may spot moose or deer in the quieter, more remote sections. Intermittent streams provide possible water access, but these are seasonal—bring adequate water or treatment options. Primitive camping is allowed in accordance with dispersed use regulations, though fires are prohibited in sensitive areas. The trail eventually curves back to rejoin the initial approach, returning to the Sherburne Trailhead. This moderate ridge route offers a quieter alternative to busier trails nearby, with the reward of solitude and subtle mountain views.
