This point-to-point segment of the Appalachian Trail begins at the Thundering Falls Trailhead and travels to Kent Pond, just outside Gifford Woods State Park. The route starts with a level boardwalk offering excellent views of Thundering Falls and surrounding wetlands before entering mixed hardwood forest. Before reaching the pond, the route passes through dense forest known for vibrant fall foliage. Multiple small stream crossings offer potential water sources, though their flow varies seasonally.
Wildlife is commonly spotted along this stretch; deer are frequent, and moose sightings are even possible. The route ends near Kent Pond, a scenic spot that can serve as a backup water source with proper treatment. This section offers a manageable hike through classic Vermont terrain with forested solitude and the visual highlight of Thundering Falls.
