There and Back
This route begins at the Corridor 9 Access Trailhead off Vermont Rt 8 north of Heartwellville, and follows a quiet forest path toward Dome Mountain in the southern Green Mountains. The trail initially climbs gradually through dense hardwood forest, crossing several small seasonal streams. Around halfway in, the grade steepens as the trail begins its ascent through mixed spruce and fir, with the path becoming rockier and more rugged. Watch for a few indistinct side trails—stay on the main corridor and continue uphill.
Keep an eye out for orange blazes signalling the Dome 393 trail. As the trail nears Dome Mountain, expect steeper pitches and loose footing in places. The final push involves a short but steady climb to the summit ridge, where limited but rewarding views open up through the trees. Return along the same route. This is a rugged, lightly traveled route ideal for hikers seeking solitude, wildlife encounters, and a moderately challenging climb to a quiet summit in the Green Mountain National Forest.
