Description
From the Little Pond Trailhead off VT Route 9, this route follows a gradual forest road into the Green Mountain National Forest. The trail climbs gently through mixed hardwood and conifer stands, with occasional stream crossings that may run seasonally. As the climb continues, keep an eye out for bird activity and moose sign in the surrounding wetlands. About halfway in the route passes Hagar Hill. Continuing along the main route, the trail eventually reaches the quiet shoreline of Little Pond, a peaceful backcountry destination with dispersed campsites and opportunities for solitude. The return follows the same path. Seasonal water is available at the pond and nearby stream; treat before drinking. This is a rewarding day hike in the Green Mountains for those seeking forest solitude and light elevation gain.
