There and Back
This point-to-point route begins at the Bald Mountain South Trailhead off Old Harbour Road and climbs steadily through northern hardwood forest to the open summit of Bald Mountain. After taking in broad views of southwestern Vermont, follow the West Ridge Trail as it contours northeast along the spine of the Green Mountains. The terrain varies between rocky ridgelines and shaded woodland stretches, with short, steep climbs mixed into longer, moderate grades.
Continue past several small stream crossings and remain on the West Ridge Trail at any junctions. As the trail nears Glastenbury Mountain, it passes the historic Goddard Shelter, where a reliable spring offers a good backcountry water source. From there, a final push leads to the wooded summit and a steel fire tower.
This remote route travels through bear habitat and rugged terrain—come prepared with proper food storage and navigation tools, especially in low visibility conditions. The return follows the same trail back to the Bald Mountain South Trailhead.
