Description
This out-and-back on the Long Trail begins at the Clarendon Gorge Trailhead near VT-103, just outside of Clarendon. The route quickly crosses the dramatic Clarendon Gorge via a suspension bridge and follows a steady climb to the ridgeline. The trail gains elevation through dense forest before reaching a series of open rock outcrops that offer sweeping views of the Otter Creek Valley and the Taconic Mountains. Watch for steep, rocky pitches and slick ledges, especially after rain. This route is best completed from late spring through fall and is ideal for hikers seeking classic day hikes in the Green Mountain National Forest with big views, solitude, and a rewarding mix of terrain.
