Loop
Begin at the parking area on Pierce Run Road and head north, climbing steadily up the Log Slide Trail. This steep, narrow section passes through a mixed hardwood forest before gaining a wooded ridgeline. From the top, follow an unmarked network of trails and old woods roads that form a broad loop around the forest’s perimeter. These roads vary in footing and grade, with occasional muddy low spots and short rolling climbs.
Navigation is essential—junctions are unsigned, and multiple spurs branch off the loop. Some spurs reconnect, offering opportunities to shorten or extend the route depending on conditions. Wildlife sightings are possible along these quieter stretches, and fall colors are especially vibrant across the ridges and valleys. After completing the loop, return downhill via the Log Slide Trail to close the route. This is a quiet, off-the-beaten-path hike ideal for experienced hikers seeking solitude and variety in Western New York’s Southern Tier.
