The Emerald Lake Vista Trail begins at the day-use parking area in Emerald Lake State Park and forms a short scenic route through hardwood forest above the lake. Follow the clearly marked path as it climbs gradually through mixed trees and ferns. The trail passes under the highway before splitting into a loop. Head left to climb to the overlook. A short distance farther, the trail reaches its high point at a wooden platform with sweeping views of Emerald Lake and the Taconic Mountains beyond.
From the viewpoint, the route curves back into the woods and descends steadily to reconnect with the initial junction. Wildlife sightings are common, especially deer and songbirds along the forest floor and canopy. The trail is open during the park’s operational season, typically from mid-May to mid-October. Dogs are allowed on leash, and a day-use fee is required for access. This route offers a quick, rewarding hike for anyone visiting the park, with one of the best views in the area as its highlight.
