The Woodland Wonderland Trail begins and ends at the Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary’s nature center parking area on Martha’s Vineyard. From the trailhead, head northeast on the Sassafras Trail, passing Turtle Pond before turning left onto the Shad Trail. Continue a short distance and turn right onto the Shoreline Trail, which curves around a small beach along Sengekontacket Pond. At the junction with Old Farm Road, turn right, then make a left onto the Marsh Trail. After crossing a boardwalk near Waterfowl Pond, hikers can return to the trailhead or extend the route by following the Jessica Hancock Memorial Trail around Bog Pond and along Moffett Cove.
This easy route travels through a mix of forest, wetland, and shoreline habitats, with clearly marked paths and very little elevation gain. The sanctuary is open year-round from dawn to dusk, and an entrance fee is required. Expect mosquitoes in warmer months near marshy sections. With abundant birdlife, tidal scenery, and quiet surroundings, this is one of the best short day hikes on Martha’s Vineyard.
