This easy route begins and ends within the Ashumet Holly Wildlife Sanctuary in East Falmouth, Massachusetts. Access the trailhead from Ashumet Road, off Route 151 via Currier Road. From the trailhead, head north on Barn Swallow Trail through open woods, then turn left onto Wheeler Memorial Trail. Stay left at the next junction, followed by a right turn to reach the path that loops around Grassy Pond—a rare coastal-plain pond ecosystem. The route curves east, then south, offering pond views and seasonal wildflowers in late summer and fall.
After rounding the pond, connect to Ashumet Farm Trail to return to the starting point. The route passes through oak woodlands, grassy fields, and groves of holly trees for which the sanctuary is named. The trail is short and mostly level, though a few segments are narrow or less clearly marked. Bird activity is high in warmer months—barn swallows and orioles are common sightings. Dogs are not permitted, and tick precautions are recommended. This route offers a quiet, easy walk with a rich variety of natural features.
