The Letchworth Wildlife Trail begins and ends near the William B. Hoyt II Visitor Center in Mt. Morris Dam Park, offering a mellow, wooded hiking route ideal for families and casual hikers. The route winds through a mix of hardwood forest and light underbrush, with several interpretive signs highlighting the area's ecology and local species. From the visitor center, follow the main trailhead west into the woods. At the first Y-intersection, veer left to stay on the primary path, which passes through dense forest with good chances of spotting deer or songbirds.
There are no major elevation changes along the route, and footing is generally easy, though sections may become muddy after rain. Dogs are welcome on leash, and the route is open year-round, though trails may be snow-covered in winter. There are no reliable water sources, so plan ahead. This is a great option for day hikes in western New York with a focus on wildlife observation and gentle terrain.
