Loop
This route begins at the main parking area off Canadice Hill Road and follows a combination of trails that form the outer loop of Harriet Hollister Spencer State Park. Starting on Big Oak Trail, hikers travel through mixed hardwood forest before turning onto Fox Run and then Sidewinder, where the trail gains and loses elevation through short climbs and descents. Continue onto Blue Spruce Run and Chalet Trail, winding through conifer groves before connecting to Ruthies Run to complete the loop. Optional inner loops and spurs allow for added mileage or shortcuts, depending on time and conditions.
The outer loop passes through quiet, less-traveled parts of the park, offering opportunities for solitude and frequent glimpses of wildlife. Several high points provide panoramic views over Honeoye Lake, especially in late fall when foliage opens up the landscape. Trail conditions range from smooth singletrack to sections that may be muddy in spring or after rain. This is a multi-use trail system open year-round, but it’s especially popular in winter for cross-country skiing. Carry all water, as there are no reliable natural sources along the route.
