Starting from the parking area at the end of Trumpet Round Road in Sugar Hill, this route uses the Blue Trail to access Cole Hill’s wooded ridgeline. Hike clockwise by following the Blue Trail from the kiosk, climbing gradually before reaching a junction with the Red Trail. Turn left on the Red Trail for a short but steeper climb to the summit of Cole Hill, which offers partial views through the trees. From the summit, descend via the Yellow Trail, which winds through open hardwoods and returns to the trailhead.
The route features two scenic viewpoints along the Blue Trail with views east and west across the foothills of the White Mountains. Trail conditions range from smooth forest tread to rocky, root-filled sections, and can be muddy after recent rain. Wildlife sightings are possible throughout the forest, and the area is popular for glade skiing in winter. This is a quieter option for those seeking moderate day hikes in northern New Hampshire with rewarding scenery and mixed-use forest trails.
