This route begins near the Coppermine Trailhead in Franconia and follows the wooded Coppermine Trail along the brook. Shortly after starting, turn onto Fat Lip Trail, a narrow singletrack that climbs gently and transitions into a series of local connectors. From here, bear left toward High Plains Drifter, a moderate blue-rated trail with steady climbs and flowing tread. After winding through this upper segment continue through mixed hardwood forest until you reach a forest service road or access track. Follow the winding access track downhill until reaching Fat Lip Trail. Head north and return to the Coppermine network via your earlier route or a nearby connector to close the loop. Expect some rocky or muddy sections, especially in early spring or after rain.
The payoff is a varied, low-traffic route through quiet forest terrain with optional side visits to Bridal Veil Falls and Coppermine Brook’s pools — ideal for confident hikers seeking solitude and off-map exploration near Franconia.
