From the main parking area at the end of Andreski Drive in Fremont, the Link Trail leads into a well-marked network of easy to moderate routes through the Glen Oakes Town Forest. Most hikers start by connecting to the Forest Loop Trail, a relatively flat path that forms the backbone of the network. From here, you can branch off onto several other trails to explore deeper into the woods.
The Woodland Trail and Homestead Trail offer moderate routes with stream crossings, glacial erratics, and dense woodland scenery. Farther out, the Barred Owl Trail extends to higher ground with intermittent views and links briefly to conserved land managed by SELT. For more seclusion, take Pike’s Pass toward the southwest corner of the forest, where you’ll pass wetlands and remnants of a historic homestead foundation. Trails are a mix of wide woods roads and narrower singletrack, and many areas stay muddy after rain. Be prepared for wet crossings and uneven footing throughout. The trail system does not form a single loop but can be combined into several short to moderate hikes.
This is a quiet forest route with natural features, wildlife habitat, and close-up views of the Spruce Swamp buffer zone.
