Begin this quiet route at the end of Garrison Lane, where a short path leads into the woods and connects with the main trail network. Follow Pete’s Path through mixed hardwood forest toward the Little River footbridge, passing through gentle terrain with occasional roots and muddy spots. After crossing the bridge, the trail turns left and continues into the core of the Little River Conservation Area. At the first Y-intersection, stay right to follow the outer section of the loop. The trail meanders along the river, skirting wetlands, floodplain forest, and stretches of open marsh before looping back to the intersection.
This route provides access to a 400-acre conservation corridor shared between Exeter and NH Fish and Game, with connections toward Conner Farm Wildlife Management Area. Trail markings are white blazes, but some side paths are unmarked. Watch for birds, deer, or beaver near the water, and be alert during fall hunting season—wearing blaze orange is recommended. This is an easy day hike in coastal New Hampshire with a mix of forest, wildlife habitat, and riverside scenery just outside downtown Exeter.
