The Bob Cameron Loop Trail begins and ends near the Tower Road parking area, following a moderately challenging route through remote forest in the heart of the Finger Lakes region. Hikers should start by heading south from the trailhead, entering a quiet, mixed hardwood forest with sections of uneven tread and gradual elevation changes. The trail loops in a clockwise direction, with intermittent stream crossings and stretches of dense undergrowth. At several points, mossy ravines cut across the landscape, and old stone walls from long-abandoned farms appear just off the path, offering a glimpse into the area’s human history.
Birdwatchers will appreciate the low traffic and dense canopy, especially during spring and early summer when songbirds are most active. Water sources are limited and intermittent—plan to carry adequate water or bring a filter. Dispersed camping is permitted under state forest rules, and leashed dogs are allowed. This trail is open year-round but is best hiked from late spring through fall. During hunting season, hikers should wear blaze orange. The solitude and subtle scenery make this a rewarding day hike in the Southern Tier’s state-managed backcountry.
