Description
From the Old Mill Trailhead near the historic grist mill, follow the Gorge Trail upstream along Enfield Creek. The trail enters a narrow gorge lined with mossy stone walls and climbs gradually via stone staircases carved into the cliffside. Pass several waterfalls early on before reaching the base of Lucifer Falls, the tallest and most dramatic cascade in the park. A steep climb up the Cliff Staircase provides sweeping views back into the gorge and of the falls from above. After topping out, continue along the Rim Trail for a more open return route through forest and ledges, with additional viewpoints overlooking the gorge. Stairs and steep sections require careful footing, especially when wet. The route is typically open year-round, but the Gorge Trail section closes in winter due to hazardous conditions. This is one of the best short hikes in the Finger Lakes region for waterfall views and dramatic canyon scenery.
