This moderate route begins at the Mason Road parking area in Williamstown, MA. From the trailhead, follow the Meadow Trail through open fields and gently rolling terrain, with early stretches offering views of the surrounding hills and chances to spot songbirds and seasonal wildflowers. At a scenic overlook, the route joins the Grace Greylock Niles Trail and heads northeast into Vermont, entering a shadier, wooded section with signs of local wildlife. After turning right onto the Oak Loop, continue a short distance before bearing left onto the Kalarama Trail. A connecting trail leads to the Vermont trailhead off White Oaks Road near this intersection.
This stretch circles back to rejoin the Niles Trail and eventually returns to the Mason Road parking area. Additional connecting trails allow for shorter variations, and a side trail off Kalarama Trail leads to the ruins of Mausert’s Camp for those looking to explore more of the preserve. Be prepared for occasional muddy conditions in low-lying areas, especially after wet weather. With panoramic views of Mount Greylock and the Taconic Mountains, this route offers a rewarding mix of scenery, solitude, and ecological diversity year-round.
