There and Back
This route begins at the former Hogback Mountain Ski Area parking lot off Route 9, just west of Wilmington. From the trailhead, follow the path north through a mixed hardwood forest that climbs steadily along the old ski runs. The grade becomes steeper near the top, but the climb is brief and manageable for most hikers.
Near the summit clearing, remnants of the ski area’s infrastructure are still visible, offering a glimpse into the mountain’s past. The summit provides wide-open views across southern Vermont, with the Green Mountains stretching to the north. Return by retracing your steps back to the parking area. This is a popular spot for short hikes year-round, though snowshoes or microspikes are recommended during icy or snowy conditions.
