Description
Dorothea’s Way Trail begins from a small trailhead off Bonnyvale Road and forms a gentle route through a conserved hardwood forest in southern Vermont. Hikers follow a well-worn footpath that loops through rolling terrain, weaving past stone walls, moss-covered cellar holes, and signs of early settlement. At several points, short connector trails branch off, linking to loops for those seeking extended mileage. Though mostly easy underfoot, sections of uneven ground and roots demand attention, especially after rain when the trail can be muddy. The canopy stays dense throughout, offering shade in summer and vivid color during fall foliage season. Wildlife sightings, particularly moose and deer, are not uncommon. This trail is open year-round and also sees use for snowshoeing in winter, but hikers should prepare for snow and ice during colder months. No permits are needed, but carry all water, stay tick-aware in warmer seasons, and leash dogs as posted. This route offers a quiet, history-rich walk with subtle natural beauty at every turn.
