The Tidmarsh Wildlife Sanctuary route begins and ends at the main parking area off Beaver Dam Road in Plymouth, Massachusetts. From the trailhead, follow Restoration Way to connect with Sandplain Stroll, which quickly transitions into the Forest Trail. Continue a short distance, then turn right onto Red Maple Path. After a gentle stretch through woods and wetland edges, turn left onto Farm Road Ramble and head south. The trail gradually becomes the Madar Loop, winding through open wetland restoration areas rich with bird and wildlife activity, including frequent sightings of herons, ducks, and muskrats.
Complete this section and retrace your steps north along Farm Road Ramble. Watch for Boulder Loop on your left—this short detour adds a quieter stretch through mixed forest before reconnecting with Farm Road Ramble. Turn left onto Volunteer Trail, then right onto Restoration Way to return to the trailhead. Trails are wide, mostly flat, and open year-round, though sections may be muddy or icy in colder seasons. Dogs are not allowed. This is one of the best day hikes in southeastern Massachusetts for viewing wetland restoration, with boardwalks, wildlife, and a scenic overlook along the way.
