Loop
This route begins and ends at the Mass Audubon Great Neck Wildlife Sanctuary parking area on Stockton Shortcut in Wareham, MA. From the trailhead, follow the Huckleberry Loop through pine woods and past a large glacial erratic before turning onto the Old Pasture Loop. The route continues through level forest on old carriage roads before crosing Great Neck Road and reaching the Widow’s Cove Trail, which skirts a scenic salt marsh with osprey nesting platforms and strong birdwatching opportunities. At a junction near the marsh edge, turn right onto to Chase’s Way.
After a short distance through mixed forest, turn right onto Heron Point for a narrower, more rugged stretch. Expect uneven terrain with roots and low rocks. The trail bends back toward Chase’s Way before the final walk back to the trailhead. This varied coastal route offers peaceful forest walking, marshland scenery, and regular chances to spot wildlife along the way.
