The Daniel Webster Wildlife Sanctuary Trail begins at the entrance building on Winslow Cemetery Road in Marshfield, Massachusetts. From the trailhead, follow Pond Trail east into a mix of red maple swamp and wet meadow. At the first Y-intersection, bear right onto Secret Trail. A short distance ahead, turn onto the Oak Hummock Loop to explore a wooded rise of mature oak trees, then backtrack a short distance to continue north on Secret Trail.
At the next intersection, turn right onto Fox Hill Trail. Stay right again to reach the top of Fox Hill, a grassy overlook with wide views of the Green Harbor River, surrounding marshlands, and open grassland habitat. From the overlook, continue left onto River Walk, which follows the river’s edge past several wildlife viewing areas. When River Walk reconnects with Fox Hill Trail, turn right to return through open fields and wetlands to the trailhead. While mostly level and beginner-friendly, boardwalks can be slippery after rain. Observation platforms and blinds along the route provide excellent chances to spot bobolinks, purple martins, and hunting northern harriers.
